Installing Bamboo Flooring

Installing bamboo flooring can be as simple as an everyday chore for do-it-yourselves. You are lucky if you are one of those who are good with their hands. All you would need to do is follow the instructions and you will accomplish this task with relative ease in a minimal amount of time. However, if the bamboo flooring you bought did not come with an instruction guide, you might have a problem. Installation processes may pretty much be the same. Nevertheless, there are many different types of bamboo floors. Each manufactured in its own unique way. Therefore, each of installation will be slightly different set of installation instructions. It is advisable then to follow the tried and tested manufacturer’s installation guideline.

If you were unfortunate enough to not have been given this guide, it would do well to carefully research specific flooring installations. Better yet, consult an expert. One cannot be too careful. A simple mistake may cause an eye-catching bump or other irregularities on your new floor. It might also put at risk your hopes of getting years of satisfaction from this usually durable flooring.

The first on the guideline should be the preparation; a key aspect in ensuring a successful installation. This includes the acclimation of your bamboo floors. This means you need to get them used to a particular temperature. Temperature may cause movement in bamboos. We take the precaution of acclimating them so that they will not bend out of shape when installed. Bamboos also naturally change their colours. Thus, another benefit of acclimating them is getting the chance to see the differences in their colour. Through this, you would be able to arrange them in a pattern you prefer. But how exactly do we acclimate? Easy. Simply put your bamboo floorboards in the room you plan to install them. Be sure to leave them there for several days at the room’s  normal temperature.

Other preparation steps include “basics” in flooring installation. These are; measuring the area and making sure your flooring fits it; making sure the surface on which you will put your flooring is clean, dry, and flat; and generally having a plan on how to best carry out the installation.

To those of us who find the preparation alone too complex, there is another way. It is the easiest, albeit costly, way of installing bamboo flooring. What is it? Hiring a contractor of course.
