Bamboo Flooring Care

So you finally have your sparkling new bamboo flooring installed. It is so pretty you cannot help but show it off. But, hold it right there. You cannot expect it to maintain its pristine condition for longer than its 25-year warranty without helping it out. A bamboo flooring care and maintenance has to be observed for the floor to last.

When you bought your flooring, a manufacturer’s care and maintenance recommendation probably came along with it. Following this guideline would help you retain your bamboo floor’s natural beauty.  More to that, it will save you the hassle and financial cost of having avoidable damages repaired.

If you did not get such recommendation, do not just shrug it off and do whatever you want with your floor. Well, you could but it may not work out for the best. Your manufacturer is the expert on this. Because they designed and tested it, they know what is best for it. So, give them a call. They can tell you best how to care for your floor.

If calling them does not work out, do not give cleaning a freehand. The cleaning products you might decide to use could contain chemicals harmful for your bamboo floor. It is actually easy to maintain bamboo flooring. However, you would not want to risk it by not seeking the best ways to keep it.

So what do you do when you cannot get hold of an expert? Do not fret. Here are the basic bamboo floor care dos and don’ts.

Do not drag heavy furniture across the floor. It is not even recommended to simply walk on it with high-heeled shoes. These could leave ugly scratches on your floor. What you should do is to put protective pads under furniture legs. Putting such pads on a woman’s high heels, however, is pushing it. Rather, put rugs (with non-abrasive backs). At the doorways of your bamboo-floored room, that is. This would collect dirt and moisture; the two definite no-no’s for your floor. Though bamboo is moisture-resistant, it cannot take too much. So, in case of spills or any dampness, immediately clean it off with soft, dry or slightly damp cloth or mop. As for dirt and grit, keep them away from your floor by cleaning regularly. Use a dust mop or soft-bristled broom/vacuum. In addition, if you must use a cleaning product, at least avoid the abrasive ones.

Keep in mind that proper bamboo flooring care and maintenance will ensure the beauty and longevity of your floor.
